These terms govern your use of the ByTune desktop application (“ByTune”, “the app”), its website, and any related services (account sync). By installing or using ByTune you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use ByTune. How your data is handled is described in our Privacy Policy.
1. The software license
ByTune is free and open-source software licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 (“GPL-3.0”). Your use, modification and redistribution of the software itself are governed by the GPL-3.0, which controls in case of conflict with these terms. These terms add rules for the service parts (accounts, sync) and for lawful use; they do not restrict your GPL rights in the code. The full source is published on GitHub.
2. Eligibility and accounts
- You may use ByTune without an account (guest mode).
- Accounts: you must be old enough to consent to online services in your jurisdiction, or have your parent’s or guardian’s permission.
- You are responsible for your credentials. Important: username accounts cannot recover a forgotten password; there is no email on file. If you lose your credentials, the account and its synced data cannot be restored.
- One account per person; keep your username lawful and non-infringing; do not impersonate others or squat names to sell.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- break the law;
- attack, overload, or interfere with the service or its infrastructure;
- access accounts or data that are not yours;
- scrape or bulk-harvest the service (including username lookups at scale);
- resell or misrepresent the service;
- use the service to infringe others’ rights.
4. Music and third-party content
Streamed music, lyrics and artwork come from third-party providers (including YouTube Music and lyrics databases) at request time. ByTune does not host that content. Availability and quality depend on those providers.
You are responsible for complying with those providers’ terms where they apply to you, and for your use of the download feature. download clause: to be aligned with the pending legal review of the download feature
Lyrics and artwork remain the property of their rights holders; the app displays source attribution where available.
5. Your data
- Guest data lives only on your device until you reset it.
- Signed-in data is stored with our infrastructure provider as described in the Privacy Policy, private to your account.
- Backups you export are your responsibility; they are plain files on your disk.
6. Availability and changes
ByTune is provided as-is and may change, add or remove features at any time. Streaming depends on third-party catalogues that can change or disappear without notice. Updates are manual: download the new installer from the website.
7. Disclaimers
ByTune is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant uninterrupted streaming, permanent catalogue availability, or that synced data will never be lost (the app keeps local backups of cloud merges, but no backup system is absolute).
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, publisher / legal identity: owner to provide is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for data loss, lost profits, or playback/catalogue unavailability. These limitations apply only to the extent permitted by applicable law; mandatory consumer rights in your jurisdiction are not affected.
9. Termination
You can stop using ByTune at any time, and reset your data in the app. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms.
There is currently no self-service account deletion; deletion requests go to our support contact support email: owner to provide while self-service deletion is in development. This mirrors the deletion section of the Privacy Policy.
